Elizabeth Bennet glanced over at her sister, Jane, as they entered the doors to Pemberley, Inc. It hardly seemed possibly that it had only been three months since they had met Charles Bingley at an overcrowded cafŽ. It was a fairly chilly evening in Seattle, as they often are along the Pacific Coast, and tables had been scarce. Jane and Elizabeth had grabbed a recently vacated table from one direction, at the same time that Charles and his friend, William Darcy, had approached the table from another direction. It was quickly decided that they would all share the table. Jane and Charles immediately hit it off, leaving Elizabeth and Will to entertain themselves.

When it became clear that Will Darcy was rather antisocial, Elizabeth decided to entertain herself by people watching, instead. When Will had asked her why she was smiling, she had explained that she liked to make up stories about the people around her. After another inquiry, she gave an example by making up an outrageous story about a young couple walking by, hand-in-hand. As he just kept staring at her, she kept adding more and more outrageous details. When she mentioned that they were secret agents sent by the KGB to spy on Seattle's finest, he interrupted her to point out that the Soviet Union had been disbanded in the early 90's, and with it, the KGB would have also been dissolved.

'I hardly see how that is relevant,' Elizabeth replied.

'If you are going to claim they are spies, you should at least name a current spy organization.'

'That may be true, but saying they are Russian spies just doesn't have the same ring to it as the KGB.'

'Why do they have to be Russian?'

'Why not?'

By the end of the evening, Jane and Charles had exchanged numbers, and arranged for a dinner date that weekend. Since Elizabeth didn't really like the idea of Jane going out on her own with a complete stranger, when Charles asked if they should make it a foursome, she gave her support to the idea. Even if it did mean she would be spending another evening with Mr. Antisocial.

Over the following three months, Jane and Charles became nearly inseparable. Both Will and Elizabeth had joined them for the first couple weeks, until Will was required to go out of town on business. Elizabeth was secretly glad that she would no longer be required to keep Charles' friend entertained. Although he had grown on her a little bit, he was still antisocial and hard to talk to. She spent the majority of each evening people watching since she didn't want to get in the way of Jane and Charles' budding romance. Although she would not admit it to herself, she did come to enjoy coming up with more and more outrageous stories about the people around them, and having Darcy argue about the impossibilities of her stories.

About a week after Will left on his business trip, Charles mentioned that he would be returning to town the next day. Elizabeth had not realized that was his way of telling her that Will would be joining them on dates again. Charles and Jane were planning a trip to the theater. When Charles arrived, Will was with him. When Will asked how soon they thought they would be ready to do, Elizabeth glanced at Jane. Realizing that Jane was perfect, as always, and that all eyes were on her, she excused herself and quickly changed her clothes and touched up her makeup. Although Elizabeth did come to wonder why Will still felt it necessary to join Jane and Charles, she couldn't really complain since she was getting to spend so much time with her favorite sister. She never really thought about any other reason that Will might want to be included on their dates.

As time passed, they settled into a routine. If Will was out of town, then Charles and Jane would go out by themselves. If Will was in town, then they would all go out together. Since Jane was spending more and more time with Charles, Elizabeth was kind of glad that Will was there so that she wouldn't constantly feel like a third wheel if she wanted to spend time with her sister. She could only imagine that Will wouldn't like to feel like the third wheel with his friend, either.

Will had been out of town for two weeks, and Elizabeth was starting to feel the absence of her sister, so they decided to meet for lunch. Elizabeth worked for a PR firm, and had a 2:00 meeting in a building within sight of Pemberley, Inc. They agreed to eat lunch down the street so that Jane could stop by and see Charles after Elizabeth went to her meeting. Since they finished lunch early, Elizabeth decided to join her sister for a few minutes.

As they were giving their names to security at the front desk, a young woman approached them.

'I'm sorry, but did you say your name is Elizabeth Bennet?' she asked

'Yes, is there something I can do for you?' Elizabeth answered.

'I've just heard so much about you,' the girl replied. 'I've been hoping to meet you.'

'How have you heard about me?' Elizabeth asked, amused.

'Oh, my brother talks about you all the time,' the girl replied.

Wondering who her brother could possibly be, she indicated that Jane should go on without her. The young woman automatically started following Jane, while still talking to Elizabeth, so Elizabeth walked along side.

'He was so excited that he was able to come home earlier than expected,' the girl continued. 'I really think he was hoping to surprise you, but since you're here, Charles must have spilled the beans. I don't know if he could keep a secret to save his life. I'm sure having you come and see him at work will make up for it, though. I've never seen my brother like this before. He usually avoids women at all costs, so it was such a surprise when he mentioned that he had been out with you a few times.'

As the girl talked, they got in the elevator. When they got to the executive level, Jane went to the left. When Elizabeth started to follow her, the girl stopped her.

'Will's office is this direction.'

Elizabeth had been listening to the girl's monologue with amused interest, wondering who she was. As soon as she mentioned the name of her brother, all the clues came crashing down, making Elizabeth wonder how she had missed them. A little stunned, and wondering how she should break the news to Will's sister that they weren't actually dating, she barely noticed when she was led through an office door. Thankfully, it was empty.

'Oh, it looks like Will stepped out for a minute. I'm sure he'll be right back. He won't mind if you wait for him here.'

'I think there's been some kind of misunderstanding,' Elizabeth started, as she followed Will's sister further into the office. She would have continued, but was arrested by the sight of a framed picture of herself sitting on Will's desk. She picked up the picture, trying to remember when it could have been taken. It was not unusual for Will to have his phone in his hand, so it would not have been hard for him to take a picture of her without her realizing it. The question was: Why?

Setting the picture back on the desk, Elizabeth found herself unsettled.

'Actually, I have a meeting down the street in a few minutes, I don't think I can wait.'

'Oh, that's too bad. I'm sure Will will be upset that he missed you.'

Just then the object of their discussion walked through the door.

'Gina, I thought you had left.'

'Oh, but I was on my way out when I ran into your girlfriend,' Gina replied, waving her hand in Elizabeth's direction. 'I just had to walk her up to your office.'

Elizabeth was stunned by the smile that graced Will's face when he turned in her direction.

'Elizabeth! I didn't expect to see you, here.'

'I have a meeting down the street, so I stopped by with Jane,' she replied. 'I don't have much time, but, uhm, is there any way we could talk privately for a moment?'

'Oh! Of course you want some privacy,' Gina exclaimed. 'I was leaving anyway. See you tonight, Will!'

As soon as Gina left the office, Will started walking toward Elizabeth.

'I really am glad that you came to see me today. I'll be working late since I have been out of the office for so long, so I didn't expect to see you until tomorrow.'

Picking up the framed picture of herself once again, she held it so it faced Will.

'What is this?'

He took the frame from her with a smile.

'Surely you remember the day we went to Pike Place?'

'Yes, but why did you take my picture, and why is it on your desk? And most importantly, why does your sister think we're dating?'

'I took the picture because I wanted to remember your expression amidst all the people. It will always amaze me the way that you thrive in large groups. I put it on my desk so it would bring a smile to my face. I told my sister we're dating because she is my closest family, and I wanted her to know.'

'But, we're not dating.'

'Why would you say that?' Will asked with a frown. 'I haven't seen anyone else since I met you.'

'Just because you haven't gone out with anyone else, doesn't mean that by default you are going out with me.'

'But we always go out with Charles and your sister anytime I am in town.'

'Yes, they go on dates, and we tag along to spend time with them.'

'I can assure you that I spend enough time with Charles at the office. There is only one person that I am trying to spend time with when we go out together, and that is you.'

'If we are dating, then I think I would know.'

'I thought you did know,' Darcy said. By this time he was incredibly confused and very uneasy.

'But you've never even kissed me! If we had been dating for a few months, certainly you would have kissed me by now.'

'But I really dislike PDA, and we are never alone.'

'Exactly! If we were dating, don't you think we would have found some time to be alone?'

'We're alone right now.'

'I really do need to get to my meeting down the street,' Elizabeth replied.

'Can we talk about this later? How long is your meeting?'

'It will be a few hours. I don't expect to be done until at least 5:00.'

'Will you come back and see me so we can talk some more?'

'I thought you had to work late tonight?'

'I'll make the time. It just may mean I have to work late tomorrow.'

With a sigh, Elizabeth realized they really should talk more.

'I'll be back in a few hours. In the meantime, one thing you should remember is that if you are dating a girl, you really should actually ask her out on a date once in a while.'

'Noted.'

As Elizabeth walked to the door, Darcy set down the picture and called her name.

'Just one more thing before you go.'

As Elizabeth raised her eyebrow in inquiry, Will stepped closer to her. Reaching up to caress her face, he leaned down and kissed her. Elizabeth was surprised, to say the least.

'I certainly hope we can do this more often,' Will said.

Elizabeth quickly went up on her tiptoes to give Will one more quick kiss before turning quickly to leave his office. Glancing at her phone, she realized she was already late for the meeting down the street. With one last smile back in his direction, she started speed walking as fast as her heels would carry her. The sooner she got to her meeting, the sooner it would be over and she could come back to explore this side of William Darcy.
