History
Incorporated in 1919, the Township of Plainsboro was carved out from land previously belonging to South Brunswick and Cranbury Township. Known inhabitants of the area include the Lenni Lenape Native Americans and Dutch settlers migrating from New Amsterdam dating back to the 17th Century.
John V.B. Wicoff and Henry W. Jeffers, local residents, headed the movement to have the township incorporated to give way for better schooling facilities than were available at the time. Wicoff’s house (pictured left) stands as a memorial and museum to Plainsboro’s heritage.
Downtown
Built on the original settlement and town center, Plainsboro Village features many brand new store fronts, a new library, and plentiful parking.
